Abstract

Abstract Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) is a product with great exponential growth, however the lack of understanding of its behavior makes its use and application difficult to date, therefore it is necessary to investigate further its performance. This study uses the software Ansys to create simulations and analyze the thermomechanical behavior in CLT systems, varying in thickness of 3, 5 and 7 layers organized alternately horizontally and vertically and being connected by flat-head screws. The simulated temperatures were from 200°C to 1200°C, being studied every 200°C, with a maximum exposure time to fire o 60 minutes. It was observed that as the temperature increased progressively, the panels showed continuous heat transfer to the piece, reaching the maximum time of 60 minutes. However, the layers inhibited heat transfer to the screws, with only the 3-layer panel reaching a maximum temperature of 162.3ªC, a value higher than the other panels. Even though all wooden panels showed small deflections, Panel 1 displaced 6.3% more than Panel 2 and 8.2% more than Panel 3. Screw displacements were minimal due to the support condition, peaking at δ = 5.28 × 10⁻³ mm in panel P3. Thus, the investigations carried out indicated that as the thickness of the lamellae in the panels increases, the elements tend to acquire better thermomechanical results.
