Timber In Construction And Carbon Removal: Sustainability Considerations And Investment Strategies
Abstract
This paper investigates investment opportunities in the timber industry with a focus on timber in construction as a carbon removal technology. Carbon removal is predicted to be a trillion-dollar business and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) names timber in construction as carbon removal technology. The paper considers the fundamental sustainability aspect of timber in construction and shows that it can be part of a holistic approach to climate protection. We explore possible investment strategies including their risk and return profile and therefore shed light on what risk factors drive the return of timber investments. Moreover, we document positive risk-adjusted performance in some of the investigated time windows.
