Abstract

Abstract Significant developments which have been taking place recently in relation to medium‐rise timber frame construction in the UK have led to a major research project, Timber Frame 2000. This involves the full‐scale testing of a six‐storey prototype, along with many desk‐based, component‐based and site‐driven ancillary research activities. This review summarizes interim progress relating to commercial and technical studies, design and specification of the test building. Reference is made to the alternative British and European codes employed in the structural design of the test structure. The technical items due for investigation in the test phases of the building are also outlined.
