NUMERICAL STUDIES OF GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER I-BEAMS USING THERMALLY DAMAGED WOOD
Abstract
The article presents numerical studies of glued laminated timber I-beams made using thermally damaged wood. Such structures can significantly reduce repair and restoration work of floors and coverings of industrial and civil buildings while maintaining the required bearing capacity and operational suitability. In previous studies, it was established that wood damaged by fire retains high strength characteristics and is suitable for manufacturing glued laminated timber structures. The paper presents results of numerical modeling of I-section glued laminated beams made using thermally damaged and raw wood. Comparative analysis showed that the load-bearing capacity of beams decreased by no more than 4.9% compared to control samples, while deformations increased by no more than 5.8%. This allows concluding the potential applicability of thermally damaged wood in such structures, particularly for capital repair of operated buildings or full replacement of wooden floor elements that have exceeded their service life.
