Abstract

This study investigated the effects of density, screw inclination angle, and screw arrangement on slip modulus and shear strength of screw connection for cross–laminated timber (CLT) concrete floor. A total of 35 push–out tests were conducted to investigate slip modulus and shear resistance for the CLT–concrete composite using a self–tapping screw. The test results showed that double and single plastic hinges in the screw were the main failure mechanisms in the CLT–concrete screw connection. The CLT–concrete composite screwed connections with larch CLT showed greater slip modulus of 18.5 to 55.1%, shear resistance of 44.1 to 79.2%, but lower ductility ratio of 17.6 to 25.4% than did those with pine CLT. The CLT–concrete composite screwed connections with a screw angle of 60° showed the lowest slip modulus and shear resistance, compared to screw angles of 90° and 45°. When two screws at an angle of 45° and 135° in X–layout were installed, small differences of shear properties of the CLT–concrete composite screwed connections with larch and pine CLT were only up to 11%. A new developed model for the shear modulus and shear resistance of the CLT–concrete composite floor using a self–tapping screw showed a good predictions, indicating a difference of 17.48 % for slip–modulus and 29.52% for shear capacity between the predicted values and experimental results.
