The application of selected creep models for glulam made from European hornbeam
Abstract
This paper presents the application of selected models in order to determine the creep behavior of glued laminated timber beams (glulam) made from European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus L.) and loaded with a constant force during a period of three months. The selected models are the 'power law', Norton-Bailey, and Burger's model. The investigations were performed in the Construction Laboratory of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy in Split. Four-point bending tests were performed on glulam beams with an applied load level of 30% of the maximum force obtained from previously conducted short-term tests. The comparison was made between the coefficients of determination obtained in Matlab for each model. It can be concluded that all three of the selected models can be successfully applied in order to describe the creep behavior of glulam beams under long-term loading.
