Conceptual development of a sensor and visualisation system for monitoring timber structures
Abstract

Making thermally and hygrothermally critical zones in timber construction visible, measurable, and traceable through digital visualization remains a major challenge in the building sector. The main objective of the project presented in this work is to develop a concept for AR/VR-supported representation and analysis of temperature and moisture behavior in timber-based building elements. This is particularly relevant for wall constructions made from different timber-based materials, where material transitions, geometric discontinuities, and connection details can significantly influence heat flow and moisture transport.

The work is based on a combined research and demonstration approach. On the one hand, the project presented in this work aims to define a technically sound measurement strategy for identifying system-critical stress points. On the other hand, a suitable visualization concept is to be established that can convey the results in an intuitive and scientifically sound manner. The planned demonstrator is therefore intended not only to support the analysis, but also to serve as a communication tool for a wider audience.
