Mass timber considerations for K-12 school buildings
Abstract
This presentation will review two case studies where mass timber construction was used in K-12 education facilities. The first case is a high school technical education building with hybrid mass and steel timber construction, with acoustical challenges of very large and high bay spaces for automotive training and building trades training. The second case is an elementary school where the design team was directed to expose as much of the timber structure as possible while also achieving CHPS Verification including acoustic performance credits.
